It is a great myth that creative geniuses consistently produce great ideas all the time and on request. They don’t. So exactly how are creative masterminds so successful at creating and innovating?
First, creative people will often be found simultaneously immersing themselves in multiple interests, subject matters, ideas and projects. Second, and even more important, they are extremely productive. Creators create – again and again and again! The more ideas you generate, the more things you prototype and try out, the higher the chances of producing something valuable. It is simple, though not necessarily easy!
Some examples to inspire you to try, try and try again –
- Thomas Edison had roughly a one third rejection rate for all patents he filed. Even out of the 1093 patents that were accepted, most went nowhere.
- Rovio – the brand that created Angry Birds, launched 51 unsuccessful games before they developed Angry Birds
- Avengers star Mark Ruffalo (plays The Hulk) did almost 600 auditions before he landed his first role
- James Dyson, creator of the famous vacuum cleaners, created 5127 prototypes over 15 years!
- And last but not least – Picasso created nearly 100 masterpieces in his lifetime. But what most people don’t know is that he created a total of more than 50,000 works of art including 1,885 paintings; 1,228 sculptures; 2,880 ceramics, roughly 12,000 drawings, many thousands of prints, and numerous tapestries and rugs.
So, let your creativity loose and CREATE! Failure is only one step closer to success.
