I work from photographs to draw the portraits. I find a paper size of 11′ x 14′ works best for most single person portraits and allows me to capture the most detail. I draw each portrait by hand from start to finish. I take particular care during the shading of the face specially, the facial features as I feel this is critical to get a true likeness for each portrait. Because of this I work in stages to allow myself time to observe the progress over a day or two and catch any mistakes before I proceed to the next stage.
Framing and display of the portrait is very personal and unique to each home and decor. As such the final portrait will not be framed when delivered. Please allow 4-6 weeks for the completion of the portrait.
When selecting pictures for portraits, keep the following tips in mind:
- Select a clear picture in high resolution where the subject’s face is clearly visible and when zoomed in, image is clear
- Typically any image 1MB or larger is high resolution
- Professional studio pictures or any pictures taken in natural light are ideal

- Carefully mailed to you in a sturdy bend-proof envelope
- Materials Used: I use Strathmore 500 Series plate finish paper for each portrait and most of the work is done with 0.5mm graphite pencils in HB, 2B and 4B.
